1st Reflection and Welcome
Michelle DodsonShare
When I first picked up a brush, I never imagined my paintings would one day become the patterns on my favorite t-shirt or the design on my favorite water glass. I fell in love with drawing and painting because it felt like a natural pull, as if it were meant to be. Over time, my work expanded into large-scale immersive collaborations exploring pattern, texture, and geometry. Penland Dodson grew out of that same sense of wonder, but on a more intimate scale and woven into daily rituals. Each piece begins as an original Michelle Penland Dodson or Bryan Dodson drawing or painting infused with sacred geometry and natural rhythms, then is carefully translated into wearable, functional objects that invite you to live with and in the art.
Drawing inspiration from the way many independent artists invite you into their studios—sharing time-lapse reels of drawings, mood boards, and candid notes on the day’s breakthroughs—my posts here will pull back the curtain on each Penland Dodson creation. You’ll find the spark that ignited the original artwork, the tiny experiments that shaped the final pattern, and the material tests that decided the feel and finish of every object. From early work to newly released items, I’ll share the backstory, inspiration, and even the detours that make each piece not just beautiful but full of story.
Thanks for joining me on this journey.
