This piece is part of Michelle's Down Trees series, inspired by the marshlands of the southern United States, where the dark, still waters create perfect reflections. In these wetlands, when you look down, the mirrored images of the trees blur the lines between reality and illusion, creating a disorienting sense of what’s up and what’s down. In this series, she turns the reality on its head, presenting an upside-down world where what we think we see is transformed into a new, almost surreal version of sombre beauty. The shapes of the trees become part of an interconnected whole, yet remain perceptually separate—seemingly distinct, yet bound together.

How to attach hooks on 24″ × 36″ horizontal frames: 

Place each of the mounting hooks 1 inch (2.5 cm) from frame corners when hanging horizontally.
